Supported cameras

LUMOplay supports a few different cameras, and continues adding support for 3D cameras as they become available. If you want a camera or sensor added to our supported camera list, contact us.

Recommended cameras

• Orbbec Astra
  
  • Best camera in terms of cost / performance for most TV installations, and any floor or wall projector or LED tiles
  • Make sure you're using the regular Astra (not S, not +, not Pro) - use the provided link to locate the correct camera
  • Requires a powered USB 2.0 extension cable if you plan to extend the camera further than 6ft from the computer.

• Intel™ RealSense® D435f
  • Works for all TV installations, and any floor or wall projector or LED tiles
  • Has a built-in bandpass filter to block visible light from the sensor
  • Includes a very short USB 3.0 cable (around 2ft). Requires a powered USB cable to extend the distance of the camera from the computer: https://www.newnex.com/realsense-3d-camera-connectivity.php

• Orbbec Astra 2
  
  • Works for all TV installations, and any floor or wall projector or LED tiles.
  • Ideal for commercial installations and those requiring longer range or more detailed tracking.

  • Requires a powered USB 3.0 extension cable if you plan to extend the camera further than 3ft from the computer

• Orbbec Gemini 2
  
  • Works for all TV installations, and any floor or wall projector or LED tiles
  • Ideal for shorter range / wide field of view projects such as portable systems.
  • Requires a powered USB 3.0 extension cable if you plan to extend the camera further than 6ft from the computer.
  • Remote calibration is recommended (contact us for more information)

Required camera for Augmented Reality Photo Booth apps and Scribbles

• Microsoft Kinect for Xbox One
  • Requires a Windows adapter
  • Microsoft no longer manufactures the Kinect, and this camera is not suitable for long term commercial installations
  • There are some restrictions with system requirements for this camera (check the compatibility of this camera with your PC).
  • Required for installations using Kinect-specific apps

Unsupported cameras (LUMOplay may work with these cameras but we do not provide support)

• Azure Kinect
  • Preliminary support added in 4.1.0-beta.16
  • There are restrictions with system requirements for this camera (check the compatibility with your PC).
  • Not appropriate for long term commercial installations
  • Not commercially available

• Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360
  • Requires a PC adapter kit
  • We have had reports from some customers that the Kinect for Xbox 360 does work with LUMOplay, but we do not officially support it and cannot offer technical assistance for customers who use it.

• Any UVC-compatible webcam
  • LUMOplay can work with most commercial webcams, but they are not recommended or supported.
  • Web cameras offer inferior performance when compared to 3D cameras.
  • If you must use a web camera, we recommend the Logitech c920.
