All cameras supported by LUMOplay will include a USB cable to connect the camera to your interactive floor or wall computer. In most cases, these cables will be between 1m - 2m long. If you plan to install your camera further away from the computer, you will need a powered USB extension cable, also known as an 'active USB extension cable'.
How to choose a compatible active USB extension cable for the original Orbbec Astra
The original Orbbec Astra has a connected USB A cable which cannot be removed, you will need an active USB extension cable with one type A male end and one type A female end. This cable should be rated for at least USB 3.0 or higher.
NOTE: An active cable will include a power cable that plugs into an outlet.
The male end will plug into your computer and the female end will connect to your camera.
How to choose a compatible active USB extension cable for Realsense and newer Orbbec cameras
Realsense cameras and newer Orbbec cameras like the Gemini 2 have a removeable USB-C cable. You can add an extension to the included camera or replace the shorter cable that is included with your camera with a longer, active USB-C cable.
Our customers have tested the Tripp Lite USB C Active Extension Cable USB C 3.1 cable with success.
Realsense lists Newnex as their official cable partner.
Maximum cable length
Do not use extension cables that are longer than 4.9m (16'.) Buy an extension that is just long enough for your project to avoid signal degradation and input lag.
If your project requires more distance between the camera and the computer, there are specific cables available for the RealSense D435f camera: https://www.newnex.com/realsense-3d-camera-connectivity.php
Plug the cable into the correct port
Make sure you plug your cable into the appropriate port. For USB A cables, plug them into a USB 3.0 port (these are usually marked with a blue color on the inside.) For USB-C ports, ensure you are using a fast data port and not a charging port. If you're not sure what kind of ports your computer has, here's how you can check them in your device manager.
Make sure the cable has power
As mentioned before, active USB extension cables will include a power cable that plug into an outlet. Without external power, the cable will not work, so make sure you plug the cable in before you test your system.
