Orbbec Astra

The Orbbec Astra is the most common camera chosen for LUMOplay installations because of it's price. It works well in darkness, low light and in most other lighting conditions except direct sunlight.

Don't Get The Wrong Model

Orbbec makes several cameras that have similar names. Do not get the AstraS or the Astra Pro. Make sure the camera you purchase is simply called 'Orbbec Astra'.

Requires Windows 10 or higher.

If you are using the Orbbec Astra with a USB extension cable, it must be powered.

Placement  Recommendations - Camera facing the floor or wall

For the most accurate tracking, we recommend mounting the camera between 3m (10') and 3.5m (12') from the wall or floor.

Place the camera no higher than 7' from the floor, above the display, for best performance. Orbbec Astra cameras cameras have a range of 0.6m (2') - 8m (26').

 

Custom Mount

Note on mounting: Older models of the Orbbec Astra use a metric M6x7.2mm mounting screw instead of the more common 1/4-20 screw used in universal camera mounts.  If you're buying a second hand Orbbec camera, there is no way to confirm which type of mounting screw your camera will have.
 
If you get an older model and you're having trouble mounting it, you can remove the built-in mounting plate and replace it with a 3D printed mount for next to nothing.
 
Simply download this free stl and print it in the orientation shown in this image:

You will need to add a 1/4" hex nut for the universal camera mounting hole.
If you do not have the tiny M2 8mm 0.4mm thread pitch screws that came with the original mount, you can get more here.
You should use a 2.5mm zip tie to attach the mount to your camera.
Since this mount is not adjustable, you may want to get an adjustable adapter.
