When should you use a USB extension?
The cameras supported by LUMOplay will include a USB cable to connect the camera to your computer. In most cases, these cables will be between 1m - 2m long. If you plan to install your camera
When choosing a USB extension cable to connect a camera to your LUMOplay computer, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Get a compatible active USB extension cable
You will need an active USB extension cable with one type A male end and one type A female end. This cable should be rated for at least USB 3.0.
NOTE: An active cable will include a power cable that plugs into an outlet.
The male end will plug into your computer and the female end will connect to your camera.
Choose the right cable length
You should not use extension cables that are longer than 4.9m or 16'. Buy an extension that is just long enough for your project to avoid signal degradation and input lag.
If your project requires more distance between the camera and the computer, there are specific cables available for the RealSense D435f camera: https://www.newnex.com/realsense-3d-camera-connectivity.php
Plug the cable into the correct port
Make sure you plug your cable into a USB 3.0 port. If you're not sure what kind of ports your computer has, here's how you can check them in your device manager.
Make sure the cable has power
As mentioned before, active USB extension cables will include a power cable that plug into an outlet. Without external power, the cable will not work, so make sure you plug the cable in before you test your system.
